We sincerely hope that all of us can narrow the distance between different religions and build bridges of friendship. We are fortunate to live in a multi-racial, multi-religious community and being able to experience different cultures, customs and beliefs, and we should cherish this.

Mr Tan Thiam Lye, at Taoist Federation 20th Anniversary Dinner on 3 December 2010

Singapore’s renowned Taoist leader, Mr Tan Thiam Lye, BBM (L), was ordained as a (大) generation Zheng Yi Sect Taoist at the celestial master mansion, Jiangxi Longhu mountain in China. In 1996, he joined Taoist Federation of Singapore as an Assistant Secretary-General. He was the Federation’s Secretary-General in 1998 and later was elected as the President since 2002.

Under Mr Tan’s exemplary leadership and tireless effort, Taoism in Singapore is prospering and has successfully gained recognition in the local and international Taoist scene. He plays a key role in reinvigorating and protecting the social image of Taoism.

Mr Tan is an advisor for more than 50 Taoist temples in Singapore, and also helms the following positions:
– Dean of Singapore Taoist College
– Managing Director of San Qing Gong Pte Ltd
– Chairman of Hougang Dao Mu Temple
– Secretary-General of Sheng Hong Temple Association
– Secretary-General OF Sheng Hong Charity Fund.

A strong advocate of interfaith harmony, Mr Tan was responsible for organising the 10,000-persons gala dinner in 2007, which included over 2000 religious leaders from across different faith communities. Mr Tan has it as a priority to promote interfaith relations, and safeguarding religious harmony. In 2010-2011, Mr Tan was the President for Inter-Religious Organisation, Singapore (IRO) between 2010 to 2011. He has been re-nominated as President for the office term 2020-2021
