The Annual General Meeting for the Inter-Religious Organisation Singapore (IRO) was held on 30th August 2020, during which a new office term was inaugurated. Singapore’s renowned Taoist leader, Mr Tan Thiam Lye became the new President for IRO.
Mr Tan, the President for Taoist Federation, was ordained as a (大) generation Zheng Yi Sect Taoist at the celestial master mansion, Jiangxi Longhu mountain in China. A strong advocate of interfaith harmony, Mr Tan has it as a priority to promote interfaith relations, and safeguarding Singapore’s multireligious unity.
In his introductory address, Mr Tan thanked Venerable Seck Kwang Phing for serving as IRO’s President from July 2019 to August 2020. Venerable Kwang Phing led IRO through a transformative 70th year, and the most challenging times of COVID-19. Mr Tan also thanked the past Executive Committee for their efforts in developing a three-year strategy for IRO.
In the new term, the IRO will focus on strengthening IRO’s core activities that will deepen interfaith experiences, said Mr Tan. This would also include further improving IRO’s digital communications. There will also be efforts to drive IRO’s organisational excellence by improving operational and management functions.
