IRO SG

The following are the official statements made by the IRO President on behalf of the Council.

24th March 2015

The Honourable
Prime Minister
Mr Lee Hsien Loong

Dear Sir,

CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF THE LATE MR LEE KUAN YEW

  1. On behalf of the Inter-Religious Organisation, Singapore (IRO), I would like to sincerely express our condolences on the death of your father, Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the founding Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore.

  1. Mr Lee Kuan Yew was a tireless advocate for inter-religious peace and harmony since the very beginning. His policy of recognising religion as a constructive social force, strictly separating religion from politics, enshrining religion freedom in our first Constitution and protecting the rights of religious minorities, has greatly led to the harmonious society we all live in and enjoy today. Singapore is truly blessed to have been led by a visionary and tenacious leader such as Mr Lee Kuan Yew and the IRO is committed to continue his noble work of promoting religious harmony in multi-cultural and multi-religious Singapore.
  1. The IRO joins the nation in mourning the passing of Mr Lee Kuan Yew. Please accept our heartfelt sympathies to you and your family during this most difficult period.

Yours Faithfully,

Gurmit Singh

President
